This is a very nice antique German sulphide marble with standing dog figure inside. The marble is hand blown with a bottom pontil. The term sulphide is used to describe decorative white silvery encrusted cameo figures that are inserted into molten glass. Although this technique was developed in France and improved upon in England, sulphide marbles were made almost exclusively in Germany in cottage workshops and small factories. These marbles were made as children's toys in the late 19th Century.
Measures 2" in diameter.
The marble is in excellent condition with a clean view of the floating dog sulphide.
